Six minutes pass. Lila remains still. Mr. Sterling collapses, weeping. Elias cries too, leaning close to Lila’s ear and whispering, “Friends don’t give up… I believe in you, Lila. Please believe in yourself.”
At the seven-minute mark, Lila’s finger twitches, and she slowly opens her eyes.
She is confused but alive. Mr. Sterling is overwhelmed with relief. Lila sees Elias and smiles, confirming their friendship and that he saved her. Police return, confirming Celeste has been caught and that evidence against Dr. Evans was found in his office.
Mr. Sterling, filled with gratitude, asks Elias where his parents are. Upon learning Elias is an orphan living on the streets, Mr. Sterling makes an immediate decision: he will adopt Elias and welcome him into their family. Lila is thrilled to have her best friend become her brother.
A new doctor confirms that Lila’s original disease was moderate, and with proper care, she will make a full recovery and live a normal life.
Two months later, Celeste and Dr. Evans are tried and convicted of attempted murder, fraud, and conspiracy. The judge sentences Celeste to 25 years and Dr. Evans to 30 years in prison.
