Not gently.
But loudly enough to echo through the entire courtroom.
Marcus instinctively rocked him.
“It’s okay… I’ve got you…”
But the crying got worse.
He adjusted the blanket—
And then…
He froze.
THE DETAIL NO ONE EXPECTED
Marcus stared at the baby’s chest.
His face went pale.
“No… that’s not possible…”
Judge Carter leaned forward.
“What is it?”
Marcus looked up, his voice shaking—but certain.
“That’s my birthmark… my son has the exact same one.”
The courtroom erupted into whispers.
The judge slammed the gavel.
“Silence!”
Then she turned to Lena.
“Step forward. Explain.”
THE LIE STARTS TO CRACK
Lena swallowed hard.
“My name is Lena Brooks… and that’s not the full truth.”
The air tightened.
She glanced toward the front row—
Where a well-dressed man sat calmly.
Victor Brooks.
Powerful. Influential. Untouchable.
“My father… controlled everything,” Lena said, her voice trembling. “My sister told Marcus the baby was his… because it was convenient.”
Marcus stared at her in disbelief.
Lena continued:
“When things started falling apart… he became the easiest person to blame. No money. No protection. No one powerful behind him.”
Victor stood up.
“That’s enough.”
“Sit down,” the judge snapped sharply.
