For anyone who remembers starting “big school,” or who has guided children through that transition, it’s well known that this stage marks a significant shift for the entire family. That sense of change was a key topic of discussion on the latest episode of the Right Royal Podcast.

The episode featured The Telegraph’s Royal Editor, Hannah Furness, who agreed that the move will be a “big deal” for Prince George. She noted that, depending on where he enrolls, he could even begin boarding. Listeners can hear the full discussion in the episode itself.

A Different Path From His Father

Prince George will turn 13 in July 2026 and currently lives at home, which contrasts with his father’s experience. Prince William began boarding at the age of eight when he attended Ludgrove School in Berkshire.

Although no official decision has been announced, Royal Managing Editor Ainhoa Barcelona suggested that two schools are emerging as leading options. One is Eton College in Windsor, the all-boys school attended by both Prince William and Prince Harry. The other is Marlborough College in Berkshire, a co-educational school and the former alma mater of the Princess of Wales.
