One afternoon, Eleanor returned to the bank with a folder she had kept hidden for years. Inside were documents related to a trust she had established long ago, advised by an attorney who believed that protection should never rely entirely on goodwill. The manager reviewed the papers carefully and confirmed that the trust remained untouched and legally protected.
Eleanor asked him to proceed according to the law.
Two days later, Matthew received a call informing him that the joint account had been temporarily restricted pending review. Panic replaced certainty. Denise reacted with frustration, demanding solutions that no longer existed.
That evening, Eleanor asked them both to sit with her.
“I did not take anything from you,” she said calmly. “I allowed the rules to speak where I was not heard.”
