Out of the corner of my eye, I saw Kate elbowing Jodie. They returned to their seats silently with their backs to us, avoiding the awkward confrontation.

I felt as if all the blood in my body had been sucked dry. I felt dizzy, and a cold sweat broke out on my forehead.

Before this, they had never announced that they were in love.

Only a week had passed by since their first encounter. I thought they were flirting with each other, so when Spencer invited me to his house to celebrate his birthday with him, I was happy. On the spur of the moment, I asked, "Will Monica be there too?"

"If she doesn't come, we'll celebrate without her," said Spencer.

"Okay." I agreed without hesitation. I was glad that he had me on his mind.

I wanted to take this opportunity to confess my feelings to him. Then he should choose between Monica and me.

On his birthday, I carefully dressed up and went to his house. He made a sumptuous meal for me and kept persuading me to drink.

Before I could confess, I felt dizzy. I wanted to go to bed.

He arranged for me to rest in the guest room. I slept soundly. After all, I had never been on guard against him.
