I covered my mouth in astonishment. "Are you saying that Mom and Grandma want to kill me?"

Mia's face changed drastically, and she slapped Jeff in the face. "You've been talking nonsense since you got out of the car, don't you know that is against the law?"

Jeff certainly understood, but his poor knowledge prevented him from expressing it completely.

Ivy frowned. "Could Jeff really have encountered something evil?"

Mia waved her hand and grabbed Jeff's ear to scold him. "You cried and shouted to go out and play in the morning, and now that I brought you here, you're causing trouble again. Are you itching for a beating?"

In Mia's view, Jeff's crying and tantrums were just a child's trick, and a beating would solve it.

I smiled and protected Jeff behind me. "Mia, why bother arguing with a child? When he gets in the water later and finds it fun, he won't cause trouble anymore."

Mia nodded in rare agreement with me.

Upon hearing my words, Jeff widened his eyes in horror and said, "Auntie Dora, I was wrong, I won't get in the water."

Ivy couldn't bear to see her grandson like this. She grabbed Mia's arm and said, "Jeff does seem a bit off. How about going home now?"
