I turned and walked toward the door.

Marina screamed at my back. "If you walk out that door without kneeling and apologizing, I will strip you of every title you hold in this company!"

"Fine." I didn't stop. "Go ahead, Ms. Pruitt. I'll be waiting for the termination letter. And a divorce agreement will be on your desk."

I walked out.

The door shut behind me.

"Ms. Pruitt, Godfrey is so petty. And he insulted my sister!" Tristan's voice carried through the wall, thick with self-pity.

"I mean, think about it. We've kissed in your office. When you got drunk, I wiped you down and changed your clothes. If he knew about that, he'd lose his mind!"

"But that's just part of my job as your assistant! Godfrey sees dirt everywhere he looks."

Marina's voice came next, soothing. "He's just jealous. Don't let it get to you."

Then, to comfort Tristan, she kissed him. Right there, in front of everyone.

"Honestly, Ms. Pruitt and Tristan make a way better couple."

"For real. Tristan's brought in so many clients for the company."

"Godfrey hasn't closed a single deal lately. He's dead weight. Can't do anything right."

A chorus of sycophantic voices filled the private room.
