He smiled, his eyes filled with joy, "Are you being silly because it hurts?"
Before I could react, he dropped my pant leg, took a candy from his desk drawer, and handed it to me.
"You can have a candy when you're in pain, and you won't feel terrible."
He gave me my favorite mints.
"Charlie, have we met somewhere before?" I asked nervously, clutching the candy in my hand.
"Victoria, what are you thinking about? Weren't we both in the student council before?"
That wasn't what I asked, but he looked like he didn't want to mention it, so I didn't ask any further.
"Thanks, Charlie. I'll leave now."
I limped to the door before a slightly upset voice came from behind me. "Victoria, happy wedding."
When I looked back over, Charlie's eyes showed a hint of imperceptible sadness. He quickly hid it as I looked at him.
I was going to explain, but I didn't think it was necessary when I thought about it.
Some of my stuff was still at Ethan's house. In order to get them, I specifically asked Zachary to help me ask when I could take them away.
