Ethan and I had been dating since our sophomore year. He was an arrogant and aloof boy at school, and he was also the president of the student council. I wanted to get a scholarship for the end of the semester, so I tried my best to join the student council.
When I first came here, I didn't know the ways of the world and pissed off a lot of people. I wanted to change, but I didn't know where to start.
"What do you want in the student council? Or are you just here to pass the time?"
That was the first thing Ethan ever told me.
At that time, I was isolated from the others, so I had to sit alone in the corner. I struggled to keep up with them, blindly taking notes on the meeting.
After the meeting, Ethan approached me to talk.
He gave me the notes he had taken and said helplessly, "If you want to surpass others, you need to surpass yourself first. You're brilliant, but you haven't found your own way."
He was quite serious with others, but he loved to talk to me with fervour and assurance. I gradually got to know him better and would tell him what was on my mind, and he wouldn't get impatient and would listen and reply to me.
