“Okay,” she whispered.

“Sorry, Ms. Campbell, without qualifications, we can’t make an exception for you. Please look elsewhere.”

“We’ve already filled the positions…”

“You don’t meet our requirements…”

Megan walked the streets, head hung low as if the whole world had abandoned her.

She had been jobless for three months now.

Lucian had compensated her with severance, and after speaking to Waston, they hadn’t troubled her much.

But she knew what Lucian wanted – it was all just a form of revenge. Why else would he pay her a substantial sum to leave the industry but offer no real help afterwards?

What good was knowing his motives when she was left destitute, without even a place to live, still having to pay for Rose’s medical bills every month?

Desperation drove her to take a job as a courier.

Being a courier was grueling and exhausting.

Her health was already poor, and the job had caused her to lose over 20 pounds in less than a month.

But debts had to be paid.

When she saw her sister again at the hospital, there was no change in her emotions. Even as Lucian looked at her with a curious eye, she seemed not to notice.
