I had put almost all my thoughts and efforts into him. That was why I hadn't been promoted even after three years in this company.
Back in school, I used to be praised by teachers as the most talented student they had ever seen. But now, those who used to be inferior to me were all doing better than me.
What I had been desperately chasing after all these years had turned out to be a joke.
When James came back, I was sitting in the living room waiting for him.
When he saw me, a hint of weakness flashed across his face.
"Are you feeling better?"
He put down his coat, walked over and kissed me.
I felt a little nauseous, but still looked at him calmly.
"What were you doing last night?"
James froze, then smiled, "Didn't you not cook for me? I called some friends for some drinks."
I continued to ask, "Anything else?"
James shrugged and said, "Nothing else."
After saying that, he leaned over to hug me, but I avoided him.
"I'm going to make lunch."
In the next few days, I immersed myself in work and was very fulfilling.
James took the initiative to call me which was rare.
"Chole, are you angry with me?"
I was confused and didn't understand what he was talking about.
"No."
