"Divorce? Who do you think you are, Judy? You're not even part of this family. What right do you have to meddle in our affairs? Or are you scared to call the police because you're feeling guilty?"
Judy's red lips twitched as she clung to my father's arm, her voice softening. "Brother, look at him. I've always treated this place as my home and done my best for this family, but now..."
As she spoke, she actually wiped away her tears.
She changed her attitude so quickly. My father, however, fell for it instantly.
He pulled her into his arms. "Don't be upset. Be careful not to..."
He almost let something slip, glaring at me angrily. "Arthur, apologize to your aunt!"
I taunted, "Dad, is she really your sister, or is she your mistress? Were you about to say 'be careful not to harm the baby'?"
My father and Judy exchanged shocked glances, turning their attention back to me. Judy's eyes widened in surprise. "How does he know...?" she murmured, covering her mouth.
"What nonsense are you spouting?!"
My father bellowed, raising his hand to strike me. Just as the blow was about to land, my mother rushed forward, shielding me.
That slap came down hard on her head.
