From that point on, she became the girl who had been with Caius for five years. I watched them from afar, wanting to go up to Caius and explain, to tell him that, I, was his girlfriend, the one he had loved for all those years. But my body was frozen in place. I could only stand there, helpless, as Caius lovingly wrapped his arms around Poppy, watching as she stood on tiptoe to kiss his cheek.
Later, the system informed me that my part in the story was coming to an end. That’s when I started feeling increasingly exhausted, too weak to even get out of bed.
But today, I felt a rare burst of energy. The nurse who cared for me helped me outside for a walk.
“Ace, you’re so slow!”
“Sorry, I went out to get you a drink.”
That familiar voice reached me and my steps froze. Once, that voice had whispered countless declarations of love to me, made endless promises.
With great effort, I lifted my head.
Not far away, Poppy was clinging to Caius. One of Caius’s hands rested behind her, his face glowing with affection as he smiled at her, his eyes filled with love.
He wrapped Poppy in his arms, the gesture so intimate, so perfectly suited.
