I went into the bedroom and logged onto the property records database. Typed in his information.

The first result: our home.

The second: Riverside Gardens, Building 17, Unit 1103. Registration date — three months before our wedding.

I stared at that date. My whole body went cold.

A school-district property in that neighborhood. I'd dreamed about it for years.

But every time I brought it up, Jayden said the same thing: "It's too hard. We can't afford it."

He never lacked the money to fight for our daughter's future.

He'd simply reserved that spot, before we even married, for another family.
