I watched them on the surveillance feed, my fists clenched tight. I never imagined the two people I trusted most could betray me so thoroughly.

I would make sure that this scumbag pair pays the price they deserve.

I saved all the video recordings, then headed out the door.

I arrived at a luxurious villa and rang the doorbell.

Samuel hadn’t come home all night; he spent the whole night with Starla.

When he finally returned, I was just about to leave.

Holding breakfast in his hand, Samuel blocked me at the door.

“Cass, I was wrong yesterday. I shouldn’t have yelled at you. I was just worried about Starla being pregnant—if something happened to her in our home, we’d be responsible.”

I glanced at Samuel.

“Afraid of responsibility, so you stayed with her all night?”

"It's not what you think. She started having complications and I was afraid something would go wrong, so I stayed with her all night. Besides, Starla is your best friend—if you don’t believe me, you should at least believe her!" Samuel took my hand, trying to win me over, but suddenly noticed my ID and household registration booklet on the bench by the entrance and asked curiously, "Cass, why are you taking your ID?"
