“She still is.” Maximus Vine insisted. “You are her legacy, a living proof of her awesomeness, she can’t be put as a mere “was” by anyone.”

“You must be speaking about my older sister Shelly. She’s more capable than I am” I contradicted him.

“Serena” he softly called my name.

The way he called me made me look up at him. His eyes met mine, and I was instantly captivated. It was filled with kindness and another emotion I dare not put a name.

He gently held my face in both of his hands and spoke.

“No one can make you feel inferior without your consent, remember that.” He reminded me.

At that moment it felt like I could do anything.

Maximus Vine’s words felt like they were infused with unseen power. Feeding the long dormant confidence in me.

Maybe I was sad, or because I’m fed up with Cain’s actions of late. With the presence of a man with oozing appeal, who treats me as if I’m someone precious, a wild thought crossed my mind.

Should I seek this kind man’s company?

As I contemplated whether to entertain the thought or not, I suddenly felt a hand grasp my arm. I found my face forcefully hitting something solid.

It was Cain. He came back and roughly pulled me to him.
