My gaze snagged on something in the corner of the frame: a finger, caught in the shot by accident.
On that finger was a wedding band identical to mine.
It was Job.
Instinctively, I scrambled to find an innocent explanation for them. Then I read Kay's caption, and my mind went blank.
"The knight never broke his vow and will always protect his princess. But this time the princess wasn't in danger. She wanted to give her knight a little surprise. This cake was baked by the princess's own hands! Happy birthday, my most loyal knight~"
So nothing had happened to her at all.
My heart split open, raw and bleeding. My eyes burned. I curled into a ball on the couch, shaking and unable to stop.
The next afternoon, Job came back from Kay's place, and we had a massive fight.
It ended badly. Job moved Kay into our home.
I refused. I screamed at her to get out of our house.
Kay collapsed on the spot with a heart attack and was rushed to the hospital.
After that, my life seemed to loop on repeat.
It always started with a fight with Job and ended with Kay in the hospital.
Over and over again.
By now, all I had left was exhaustion.
