I turned to face her, keeping my face composed. “Why would I? He’s my stepbrother. We’re family now.”

She moved closer, eyes narrowing with cruel certainty. “Don’t act innocent. Marcus told me everything. About your desperate little crush, how you keep trying to seduce him. If you don’t stop, I’ll tell your parents everything.”

Her words sliced through me like blades, but I stood firm. I turned away to leave, but she grabbed my arm. Instinctively, I jerked back, and her heel slipped on the wet floor beneath her.

She fell hard, letting out a loud, theatrical cry.

The bathroom door burst open.

Marcus stood there.

“What the hell is going on?” His gaze darted from Maggie’s crumpled form to me, standing nearby in disbelief.

“She shoved me!” Maggie wailed, tears streaming down her face. “I don’t know why—maybe she resents me. I was only trying to be nice.”

“That’s not true!” I cried, my voice shaking with fury. “She’s lying! I didn’t—”

But Marcus didn’t even glance in my direction.

He went straight to her side, gathering her into his arms as though she might shatter. As they passed by me, his shoulder collided with mine, the force pushing me off balance.
