Hysterical, I pounded him with punch after punch. Daniel groaned, eyes red, holding my legs tightly against his.
The room fell silent. In the tight space, only our heavy breathing remained.
“Felicia, don’t be so stubborn. You’re pushing me away.”
He sighed. Then his hand reached to wipe my tears.
The next second, the phone rang. I knew it was Emily’s.
“Felicia, Emily’s crying because of you. I have to go comfort her.”
I watched Daniel walk away. Then I wiped my tears.
My guy was off wiping another girl’s tears. And I was too old to cry over things like this.
I returned to my old rented room. It was the one I rented when I first came to London. Back then, we were poor and the two of us squeezed into the narrow bed; even a slight turn would cause it to creak.
Later, I often felt I owed Daniel. The top movie star’s first time happened in such a cramped spot.
“Young lady, where’s your handsome boyfriend?”
I looked up at the noodle soup shop owner, slowly processing what she said.
“If I remember correctly, you two always order beef noodle soup. You eat the meat and your boyfriend just eats the noodles.”
It was so long ago that I couldn’t even remember the last time Daniel and I had eaten together.
